Energy-Critical Control of Vehicles

Power-limiting strategy with adaptive environment-based adjustment · Allison Transmission, Inc. (2023)

In collaboration with Allison Transmission, Inc., this project developed an energy-critical control framework for vehicle platoons. Analogous to safety-critical control, we introduced the concept of energy-critical control using Control Barrier Functions to enforce upper bounds on energy consumption while adapting to environmental conditions such as road grade and traffic density.

Key contributions:

  • Introduced the concept of energy-critical control using CBFs
  • Designed a power-limiting strategy with adaptive adjustment from environment
  • Simulation-based validation (estimated TRL 2–3)
